What is the Sterilox Solution?
The Sterilox Solution is a food-safe liquid sanitizer widely used in the produce, floral, and seafood departments in thousands of retail supermarkets to remove harmful bacteria and reduce spoilage organisms. The principal ingredients of the Sterilox Solution are mild oxidants, of which 96% of these active oxidants are hypochlorous (HOCI) at nearly pH neutral. Sterilox Solution is completely food safe.
How does it work?
The Sterilox System has a patented technology that converts simple brine solution (salt and water) into a neutral pH hypochlorous, a clear liquid sanitizer. It is produced on-site, on-demand, at point of use.
Is it safe?
The Sterilox Solution is safe for contact with skin because the level is so low. Hypochlorous is widely used by all bag salad companies on a much larger scale to remove harmful bacteria and kill spoilage organisms, enhancing shelf life of produce. It is FDA allowed and EPA registered. Independent laboratories conducted acute oral toxicity, skin sensitization, eye irritation, skin irritation and bacterial mutagenicity tests to international standards. The test results concluded that there are no known health risks associated with its intended use. Additionally, the US FDA has listed Sterilox Fresh Solution as safe for direct food contact without a potable water rinse, and it is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic fod production.
Will there be an aftertaste?
No, the flavor profile is not altered by the Sterilox Solution due to the low concentration and near neutral pH. Hypochlorous kills the organisms and leaves no residue, which is why it is so widely used in the food business.
How often do you use the Sterilox Solution?
The Sterilox Solution is not designed to bring back adulterated product, but rather to re-hydrate the product in the normal crisping process. It opens up the cell structure of the product keeping it fresher, longer.
What does it do for misting?
The Sterilox Solution is automatically injected into the misters at a low level to remove harmful biofilms and bacteria. Benefits are a cleaner case, eliminated mold growth on misting heads, and the introduction of bacteria-free water into the wet rack.
What about crisping?
By regularly using the Sterilox Solution in the produce crisping program, it will eliminate re-crisping and cut case daily re-work in half, as product trimming will be greatly reduced, saving labor. In addition, customers will experience improved home life.
What about floral?
The Sterilox Solution replaces floral food and mitigates pot fouling in the floral vessels. It keeps the flowers just as fresh, but eliminates bucket cleaning labor.
How long does the Sterilox Solution last?
The Sterilox Solution has a long shelf life in the sink, depending on the cleanliness of the produce. We recommend testing water with test strip every other hour, and if it falls below 20 ppm, replacing as you normally would.
